One thing everyone knows about Europeans is that they take their recycling very seriously. A lot of homes and companies are doing their best to reduce the impact on the environment by reducing, reusing and recycling. We, at the European Clean Team, also know that there are many easy things that each of us can do at home to protect our environment.
Today we would like to put a crazy idea out there…
Try to live paper towel free!
You might ask why? Take a look at the following website: http://www. thepaperlessproject.com/how- to-reduce-your-paper-towel- use/
You will learn that to produce one ton of paper towel, 17 trees are cut down and 20,000 gallons of water are contaminated. In the U.S., we currently use more than 13 billion pounds of paper towel each year! This equals to more than 3,000 tons of paper towel waste in the U.S. You’ll agree… that’s a huge number!
So what can you do at home to reduce waste and live a paper towel free life?
1. Instead of purchasing paper towel, buy a number of different colored rags. We suggest you designate each room to a separate color. I.e. red for the bathrooms, blue for the kitchen,… you get the idea.
2. Invest in some good microfiber cloths for the more tricky jobs like mirrors or glass surfaces. They will do the job just fine and leave you with beautifully cleaned glass surfaces. No need to use a lot of cleaning products!
3. Stock up on cloth kitchen towels. You will find that you will use them a lot more than when you had your paper towel readily available. Use a separate kitchen towel to dry your hands in the kitchen.
4. A final tip for success: Keep large, old rags available just in case you have to wipe up a spill.
We know that habits are hard to break but we believe in you. It’s a small change that can have a huge impact on our environment! It’s worth a try 😉
