Have you ever heated up spaghetti with tomato sauce on an uncovered plate and it exploded & splattered all over the inside of your microwave? Let’s take this a bit further… this may have happened to your significant other and he or she neglected to clean the mess up! Imagine, the tomato sauce is all dried up and stuck to every square inch of your microwave- sounds like fun, doesn’t it ?!
Here is how the pros would handle this situation:
- Relax! A microwave is a pretty simple appliance to clean. The key is to do it on a regular basis, before it get’s too big of a job. The European Clean Team would recommend that you clean your microwave once a week.
- Take a microwave save cup and add a healthy splash of vinegar or lemon juice to about one cup of water. Go ahead and heat the liquid for about 3 minutes inside the microwave. The steam and the acid in your solution will cover the entire inside of it and will loosen all of the grime and dried on food before the actual cleaning.
- Next, take the rotating glass plate and the plastic parts out of the microwave and soak them in hot soapy water.
- While the removable parts of your microwave are soaking, wipe out the inside. It’s probably a good idea to have a sponge with a scrubbing side handy for tougher stains or stuck on food particles. Don’t forget to dry the walls, the bottom and the ceiling of your microwave.
- Now it’s time to clean the rotating glass plate. Make sure you thoroughly clean sides, top and bottom. This should be easy after you have soaked it.
- After you cleaned and re-assembled all parts of the microwave on the inside, do not forget to clean the outside! Make sure you wipe all outer surface areas with a soapy microfiber cloth and polish it afterwards for a nice shine.
If you are working for a cleaning service, this job should be included in every kitchen cleaning at no additional cost.
Happy cleaning Ladies and Gents! And don’t forget to cover those plates before you turn on your microwave.
