Dishes are a sensitive topic in our household. My husband is a strong believer of hand
washing dishes, because he thinks that’s the only way to really clean them
properly! I am a strong proponent of using the dishwasher, because in my book it’s
just the easiest way to get the job done.
Just because today my husband is on dish duty, I am going to take a quick look at
how to properly hand wash your dishes.
Obviously, there are a number of ways to hand wash your dishes, but The European
Clean Team suggests to start with a clean sink. Fill up your sink half way with hot
water and add a healthy splash of dish soap to it. Be sure to have a clean sponge
handy, that you can use to clean your dishes.
You should remove any left over food from your dishes before you wash them and
start with your cleanest dish first! The European Clean Team suggests that you
work your way from the smallest dish to the largest. That means glasses and silverware
should be washed first, following plates, serving bowls, pots and
pans.
Don’t forget to change the water from time to time!
After you washed your dishes using a sponge, rinse the soap off (preferrably in the second
compartment of your sink, if you have one). Then, place the dishes on a drying mat or into a dish rack. Once you are done, use
a nice fresh dishtowel to dry the dishes and put them away.
Rinse out your sink to get rid of any food particles. Don’t forget to clean the drain
catcher and wipe out the sink with a dishtowel. You are done
This is a great job for kids who are old enough to help in the kitchen!
Green Cleaning Tips:
Be sure to use only as much soap as you really need.
Turn off the water when you are done rinsing the dishes.
