At a recent cleaning, we came about a fridge that was not only dirty on the outside, it was full of mold and bugs on the inside. (Yes, we have seen it all). This frightening fridge made me think about my own lovely fridge . Although I do clean it out from top to bottom on a regular basis, it might still be a breading ground for mold or bacteria.  I was wondering ” how often do I really need to clean my fridge and what are the best techniques and supplies to get the job done the right way?”

Here is how the pros do it:

First, you need to unplug your refrigerator, pull it forward, take all your magnets and family love notes off and make sure you clean all around the outside.
Next, you want to remove everything out of the inside of the fridge. Spray everything with an antibacterial multipurpose cleaner, which you can easily make yourself by following one of our green cleaning recipes http://theeuropeancleanteam.com/2015/08/21/green-cleaning-recipes/
Let it sit for a minute or two, especially on very dirty spots. Wipe the entire inside, including all the shelves and the walls and be sure  not to forget the rubber sealing on the door! In the end, plug the fridge back in and you are back in action.

How often should you give your refrigerator a complete clean? We suggest that you do it once a month.
What supplies do you need to get the job done? We suggest that you have the following available:

1. A strong man to move and unplug the fridge for you.
2. Paper towels.
3. Antibacterial multipurpose cleaner or soapy water.
4. Microfiber cloths.
5. A small brush or a cleaning cloth to clean the rubber.
6. A sponge with a ruff end to scrub dried on foods.
7. A hand brush to brush off the outside of the fridge.
8. Finally you can re-use the strong man from earlier to plug the fridge back in and move it back into place.
